What are the Best Products for Wrinkles?

By

Why do we get wrinkles and what products help get rid of them?

Wrinkles can be one of the most frustrating beauty problems most women will ever encounter. Getting rid of them can be a challenging process and one that requires a sound understanding of why they develop in the first place. After providing you with a little background information on what causes facial wrinkles, I'll share what I consider to be the best products for wrinkles currently on the market.

As the skin begins to age, the division of skin cells begins to slow and the dermal layer or the inner skin layer starts to look noticeably thinner. Natural substances in the skin such as collagen which is the structural protein of the skin and elastin which allows skin tissue to stretch, begin to deplete and decrease with age. Hylauronic acid which is responsible for providing the skin with moisture and skin volume or ‘plumpness' also begins to rapidly deplete, causing the skin to look less full.

As the skin's ability to hold water diminishes, oil and sweat glands begin to degenerate robbing the skin of essential water and lipid emulsions which are responsible for keeping the skin supple and moisturized.

Common Causes of Wrinkles

As the skin ages, so does its ability to repair itself from wounds and injuries. Frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet around the eye can start to appear due to persistent smaller muscle contractions. Lines on the face known as habitual facial expression wrinkles also form and contribute to features such as drooping eyelids and jowls around the chin and jaw line area.

Skin can also age prematurely as a direct result of over and prolonged exposure to UV damage which is commonly described as photo aging. Sun damage is one of the major contributors to skin aging and experts believe it is accountable for up to 90% of premature skin aging.

Researchers have discovered that even small amounts of damaging UV rays can harm collagen fibers and cause abnormal elastin to accumulate. This leads to loss of flexibility and stretch in the skin. As the collagen degrades, disorganized collagen fibers called solar scars eventually result in the wrinkles we see on the surface of the skin. Protecting the skin effectively with a high factor sun protection product is essential to prevent the skin from prematurely aging and developing lines, facial wrinkles and in some cases skin cancers.

Causes You Can Control

It is a scary thought at times but there may very well be things you are doing every single day that help create conditions that encourage wrinkles to form and speed the aging process faster that what would normally occur.

Other factors that contribute to facial wrinkles forming include environmental pollution and smoking. Do you think you don't have to worry because you don't smoke? Even the regular use of candles in an enclosed environment such as a poorly ventilated room can kick the aging process into high gear and mimic the effects of heavy smoking. These factors increase the amount of free radicals in the skin which damage cell membranes, leading several contributory skin disorders which includes wrinkles.

Sudden weight loss can also cause wrinkles as a dramatic reduction in the volume of fat cells can cause the skin to sag. Lack of moisture can also play a role over time so if you aren't already using a good hydrating moisturizer in the morning and again before you go to bed at night, it might be time to start. You can pick up a great moisturizer for well below retail prices by looking on websites such as eBay and other online skin care product stores. As a preventative measure, a great moisturizer is a must-have product for dealing with wrinkles and slowing the onset of new ones.

Finding the Best Products for Wrinkles

While there is no single cure-all solution to facial wrinkles, there are plenty of things you can do to reduce their appearance and keep your skin looking young and healthy. First, be sure to limit your exposure to ultraviolet radiation as it has been proven to accelerate the aging process. That tan may look good now but will ultimately lead to leathery, wrinkled skin in the future. Next, be sure to stay active and get regular exercise as this helps to promote natural skin cell regeneration and removal of toxins and free radicals that can damage your skin.

Finally, if you are looking to take a more aggressive stance against wrinkles, consider adding a high quality anti wrinkle cream or wrinkle reducer to your skin care routine. Product comparison sites offer up helpful buying tips and product reviews and are a good place to start your search for an anti-wrinkle cream. It is impossible to completely avoid wrinkles but there are plenty of things you can do to limit them and fortunately, there are some very good anti-wrinkle skin care products out there to help!
